Love Those Stereotypes!

I watched Law & Order last night in the hopes that it would quell the migraine that was a'comin. Television always helps me -it's my friend. Anyway, last night's episode was about a Jewish man who killed his business partner (set designers note: the "menorah" in his apartment only had 6 spaces for candles) because said partner was skimming cash mon-ay off of their mutual business. So he got himself a lawyer, a real gen-u-ine Jew lawyer at that. You could tell because central casting chose a guy who looked like Woody Allen, used Yiddishisms and generally acted a buffoon. This lawyer is however, super-smart but instead of relying solely on his legal prowess, he stacked the jury full o'Jews (no one noticed until it was "too late" -- who is writing these scripts?) and counted on that jury to acquit his oh so guilty client. The client, who by the way, took out his thievin' partner because the money he stole was supposed to be sent to help things along in Israel. (Their business? They were bookies. Bookies = money = moneylenders = Jews!)

I know, the show was totally convoluted. Not to mention it wasn't helping my headache any. I kept saying to Doug, "this is ridiculous, right, right?" -- as if I was the one not getting it. What I didn't count on was that even though the jury was almost totally Jewish, they "got" what it was all about. That is, they convicted the guilty Jewish son-of-a-bitch, even though he was pro-Israel, yadda yadda yadda. I was outdone. Mostly because I too fell for this stacked jury ploy and I would have been so mad if the guilty man went free. I had failed to even remotely consider that people, albeit characters on a TV show, would see how ridiculous the whole thing was. I forgot about justice. Ok, TV-justice but you get the point.

P.S. The good news: the Empire State Building is back to white lights! Yay!
