Those Who Shall Remain Nameless

Say someone is pregnant. Say that person is over 40 and a little freaked out because she needs every test in the world done (and then has to wait weeks before anyone tells her anything concrete.) Say she gets many tests done and things look good. She is feeling positive and hopeful and the fact that her sundresses don't fit anymore is no longer a concern because she is having a healthy baby and she is looking forward to buying all new things anyway. Then say that she picks up the phone without looking at the caller I.D. and someone-who-shall-remain-nameless is on the horn. Say this person (SWSRM) proceeds to scare her about her pregnancy, telling her that she should be getting monthly ultrasounds because his wife you know, delivered a "dead baby." Say the woman, who is usually a loud mouth with a lot of opinions is too shocked and upset to say anything because well, it is just so inappropriate and harmful and negative that she is frozen into silence. Say that SWSRM goes on and on until she musters up the strength to say goodbye so she can cry on her bed and wonder why people are so incredibly thoughtless.

Any ideas why someone would do that?
