Melancholy Sunday
We had a really lovely day today with Kelly and David. But it made me really sad too because I realized how much I miss my friends who don't live here anymore. You see, I feel that visiting a place doesn't have as much to do with the place. It's about the connections. When I visited Paris with Gisela we were content walking the streets, sitting at cafes and just being in each other's company. Sure, it was nice visiting "places" but it wasn't about that so much for us. It was about being in each other's presence. Same with Kim. I can still remember sitting in SoHo with her underneath these really stinky trees talking about life. It was deep. It was connected. So when people visit New York and they chose to do other things rather than sit and visit with me (and especially Mamie), it kinda stings. Sure, New York has a lot to offer but sometimes it's not about that. Sometimes it's about sitting in someone's kitchen over a cup of coffee catching up and talking, or even saying nothing. Just being.
